Al Thaneya

Al Thanya is the Egyptian second public channel (also known as ERTU 2). It started broadcast in 1961, a year after the Egyptian state-owned network was launched (Egyptian Radio and Television Union - ERTU: From 1967 to the early 1980’s, the ERTU broadcast was limited to Al Oula and Al Thanya for economic reasons.

Al Thanya channel broadcasts entertainment, political and cultural programs. Its most prominent program was “Al Bayt Baytak”, a talk show that discussed political issues in the last years of former President Mubarak.

Like other state-owned media, Al Thanya, is managed by the National Media Authority.
