Al Youm Al Sabea
Al Youm Al Sabea (Youm7) is a daily Arabic-language newspaper. It was founded in 2008 as a weekly and started its daily publication in 2011 and its online version is known to be one of Egypt’s most popular website. According to statistics published by media reports in 2017, the distribution of Youm7 newspaper amounts to more than 10,000 copies per day.
The newspaper was initially owned by its founder Walid Moustafa. By the end of 2012, Ahmed Abu Hashima, a businessman close to the current regime, was the main investor in the newspaper together with businessman Alaa El-Kahki, the owner of Al-Nahar Channels Network.
Since 2013, although Youm7 claims a non-partisan and non-political affiliation, the newspaper has become very supportive of all policies of then Minister of Defense Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Since al-Sisi was elected President, the editorial line became even more aligned with the regime. In 2017, Youm7 editor-in-chief, Khaled Salah, made an announcement in which he swore allegiance to al-Sisi. A veteran journalist and TV host, Salah graduated from the Faculty of Mass Communication at Cairo University in 1993. Before being the editor-in-chief of Youm7, he worked at Al-Ahram Al-Arabi magazine, an Arabic political weekly belonging to the Al Ahram Establishment.
Youm7 is now owned by the the Egyptian Company for Press, Publication and Advertising, which is owned by Egyptian Media Group. Egyptian Media is owned by Eagle Capital Investment that belongs to the Egyptian General Intelligence.
